"Our deep respect for the land and its harvest is the legacy of generations of farmers who put food on our tables, preserved our landscape, and inspired us with a powerful work ethic."

— James H. Douglas, Jr.

This quote embodies our mission in one word: respect. Respect for the American farmers who’ve toiled to provide for us, for the herbalists who unlock the medicinal power of plants, and for the naturalists who steward the land. That same respect drives us to do things the right way — from the seeds we grow and source to the way we care for our customers.

What Does “The Right Way” Mean?

To us, doing things the right way really is as simple as it sounds — grow good seeds, treat people right, and stand behind what we sell. Truth is, we couldn’t run this business any other way. If a customer’s unhappy, we’re the kind who lose sleep over it (and with high blood pressure, that’s not ideal).

While plenty of companies chase lower prices by importing seeds — usually from China or Eastern Europe — we’ve stuck to what we believe in: working with trusted U.S. farms we’ve built real relationships with. We can tell you where our seeds were grown, how they were grown, and when they were harvested. We know our seeds haven’t spent the last nine months sitting in a shipping container.

Our Story

While our family has been involved in farming, growing, and seeds for over 50 years, Seed Therapy officially began in 2019 as a small, family-run venture on Etsy, founded by Ryan and Kim Dorn. From those humble beginnings, we've quickly grown to over 2 million seed packets sold and 75,000+ 5-star reviews, making us one of the Top 30 Etsy stores worldwide — and currently ranked #16 in the United States.

The growth came fast, and with it came plenty of sleepless nights and a whole lot of stress. But through it all, we knew we were on the right track because of one simple thing: the seeds. People kept coming back. They grew with us — literally — and that told us everything we needed to know.

At the time of this writing, our repeat customer order rate is 37% — a staggering number in the seed industry, where seasonal buying is the norm. That kind of loyalty doesn’t come from gimmicks. It comes from trust, and we’re grateful for every bit of it.

To be ranked inside the Top 30 out of more than 7.5 million Etsy stores — many of which have been around for decades — is both humbling and deeply motivating. It reminds us to keep grinding and to bring our A-game every single day. We’re human, and there are times we might fall short of those lofty expectations — but we damn sure give it our best.

Originally known as Southern Seeds, we rebranded in 2025 to Seed Therapy — a name that better reflects our evolving mission and the way our customers have come to see gardening: as something meaningful, grounding, and deeply personal. While our roots are in the South, we’re not a company that only caters to southern growers — our seeds are loved by gardeners all across the United States. What started as a passion project has become a multi-generational family business, now proudly joined by our daughters Bailey and Avery, our son Gavin, and Avery’s fiancé Eric.

Together, we now offer over 800 heirloom, non-GMO seed varieties — proudly American-grown. For the few that aren’t U.S.-grown (usually by customer request — like eucalyptus), we clearly note it in the listing so you always know exactly what you’re getting.

Giving Back

Giving is part of our DNA. To date, we’ve donated millions of seeds to community gardens, schools, church groups, and communities impacted by natural disasters.

If your organization could benefit from a seed donation, just shoot us a message — we’re always looking for ways to give where it matters most.

We’re Here for You

As we’ve said before, we run this business with one simple goal in mind: not losing sleep at night from failing to take care of our customers. So if something goes wrong — whether it’s a missing packet, a delivery delay, a germination question, or the post office just plain screws up the shipment (we're often at their mercy) — please reach out.

Your success in the garden is what makes our success possible, and we don’t take that lightly. We’re always here to help however we can — and we mean that. From quick questions to big issues, we’re in your corner every step of the way.

Thank You

From our family to yours: THANK YOU for choosing Seed Therapy. Your trust means everything to us, and we’re committed to earning it — every seed, every season.

And if we ever fall short of that, we hope you’ll let us know. While our hearts, our souls, and pretty much every waking moment are invested in these seeds, we’re always looking to grow — and your feedback helps us do just that.
